As an example, Mr. Schalk successfully obtained over three million dollars in a case against a large corporation under the New Jersey Conscientious Employee Protection Act (CEPA). That law protects whistleblower employees against discharge, suspension, demotion, or other adverse employment action
Charles Z. Schalk’s career is highlighted by his ability to achieve multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements on behalf of his clients. Among his most notable accomplishments is a landmark $2.025 million verdict for a dental student against the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). It was a major education law case and it marked one the largest student expulsion verdict nationwide at the time it was entered.
In another particularly challenging and unique case, Mr. Schalk represented the Board of Trustees of the First Presbyterian Church in Newark, NJ in a dispute that spanned centuries of church history and involved a $20 million of church property. His zealous defense led to a victory in the complex civil case that protected the church’s autonomy and its property rights.

Outside of his litigation achievements, Charles Z. Schalk has made substantial contributions to the legal profession and community. He has been appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to the Vicinage XIII Ethics Committee and the Vicinage XIII Fee Arbitration Committee.
